Context and role

The Kindle Authors Contest invites book authors to enter their books, and its landing page is where they learn how to take part.

Problem

Tell authors what to do next.

The landing page is the main place for authors to learn what is happening and what to do next: understanding how to take part in the contest.

I designed it for web and mobile.

I worked in coordination with the Kindle Direct Publishing team, who had already gathered feedback from authors. I analyzed that feedback with the help of AI, which made it quick to summarize and made the authors’ pain points easy to see. That guided my design decisions.

Process

  1. AnalyzeAuthor feedback

The Kindle Direct Publishing team’s author feedback, analyzed with AI.

  2. DesignWeb and mobile

The landing page, plus the Terms and Conditions and FAQ pages.

  3. IteratePrototype reviews

The design refined through Figma prototype reviews.

  4. LocalizeSix regions

The design adapted as content varied by region.

  5. Hand offAnnotated guides

Specifications documented for developers, and PR review passed.

Design

Make the steps easy to follow.

I led the redesign of the Kindle Authors Contest landing page for book authors. Authors needed to easily understand the participation steps and contest requirements.

Final design · The four entry requirements, each on its own card.

I designed navigation and visual elements that highlight those steps and requirements on both mobile and web, balancing engaging visual storytelling with simplified navigation. I standardized the design for accessibility while leaving room for regional content.

Beyond the landing page, I designed the Terms and Conditions and FAQ pages to match it, so authors had a consistent experience wherever they went on the contest site.

Final design · The prizes for winners and finalists, with a second call to enter.
Final design · The previous year’s winner and finalists bring in the storytelling.
Mobile design · The same steps, in a single column.

Working across regions

One design, six regions.

USUKDEFRITES

The page launched in the US, UK, Germany, France, Italy, and Spain. Regional requirements were thinly documented, so I gathered localization needs myself, researching and bridging the gap between the content and the design intent.

I coordinated decisions with stakeholders, content owners, and developers across time zones. Annotated guides documented the specifications, and Figma prototype reviews kept the feedback loops moving as content varied by region.

The production-ready design artifacts passed PR review standards.

I handed off the final designs to the stakeholder and the developer.

Outcome

Launched in all six regions.

The redesigned page launched in all six regions, standardizing the contest experience for authors worldwide. As an external-facing experience, it met global brand and quality standards and passed PR review.

It supported several regional marketing goals and contributed to the contest’s international outreach.
